South Norwalk, affectionately known as "SoNo," is a historic neighborhood located in the city of Norwalk, Connecticut. It has a rich history that dates back to the early days of European colonization, and today it is a thriving hub of art, culture, and entertainment.

The area now known as South Norwalk was originally inhabited by the Norwalk Indians, a Native American tribe that lived in the area for thousands of years. The first Europeans arrived in the area in the early 1600s, and the town of Norwalk was officially founded in 1651. In the early days of European settlement, the area was primarily agricultural, with farmers growing crops and raising livestock.

As the town grew and developed, South Norwalk became an important hub of industry and commerce. The Norwalk River, which runs through the neighborhood, was used to power mills and factories, and the area became home to a number of important businesses and industries. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, South Norwalk was a major center of shoe manufacturing, with several large factories located in the area.

Over the years, South Norwalk has undergone many changes and transformations. In the mid-1900s, the neighborhood began to decline as industry moved elsewhere and many residents left the area. In the 1980s, however, South Norwalk experienced a resurgence, as artists, musicians, and other creative types moved in and started to revitalize the neighborhood. Today, SoNo is home to a vibrant arts scene, with galleries, studios, and performance spaces scattered throughout the area.

In addition to its arts and culture, South Norwalk is also known for its dining and nightlife. The neighborhood is home to a wide range of restaurants, bars, and other entertainment venues, making it a popular destination for visitors and locals alike.

SoNo has a rich history and a vibrant present, and it is an important part of the city of Norwalk. Whether you're interested in art, music, food, or just a good time, there is something for everyone in this dynamic and diverse neighborhood.
